Commemorative Mapping "250 Santa Càndia" in Falset

08/09/2024
Falset has celebrated the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the relics of Saint Càndia, the town's patron saint, with a unique event, the central act of the celebration of this anniversary. On the evening of Sunday, September 8, the façade of the Church of Santa Maria in Falset became the backdrop for a video mapping show that explored the most significant moments in the history of Saint Càndia in the town.
The mapping, designed to highlight the fundamental role of the young Roman martyr in the local tradition, took the spectators through the centuries, from the arrival of her relics in Falset to the origin of the town's Festa Major. The video mapping visually and emotionally showcased the historical events that have marked the town's trajectory and its devotion to Saint Càndia.
As the projection advanced, the people of Falset were able to enjoy scenes recreating the arrival of the relics, followed by a journey through the history of the Festa Major, with special attention to the traditional folk dances that have been an essential part of the celebrations over the years. The lively parade featuring the town’s festive elements, traditional dances, and popular music were also key protagonists in the mapping show. To conclude, the event culminated with fireworks that lit up the sky of Falset, marking the end of an unforgettable day.
This event is part of a series of activities celebrated during Falset’s second Festa Major, dedicated to Saint Càndia, a festival that every year fills the streets with history and tradition. Thanks to the projection mapping show, the people of Falset and visitors were able to experience the town’s history in a unique and innovative way, reflecting the deep-rooted devotion to their patron saint and their festive culture.
With this event, Falset, capital of the Priorat region, has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving its history and promoting its traditions, bringing them closer to everyone through art and technology.
