Narrative video mapping on Oliba: History, heritage and audiovisual innovation

Sínoca has designed and produced a large-format narrative video mapping for the closing ceremony of the CEU Abat Oliba Awards in Barcelona. The audiovisual show, conceived as a high-impact surprise for the dinner guests, merged visual narrative and precision architectural projection on a historic facade, transformed for the occasion into a living screen to popularize the cultural and human legacy of one of Catalonia's most crucial figures: Abbot Oliba.

Projection on a monument of cultural interest

The production tackled the technical complexity of projecting onto the exterior facade of the Aula Magna at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU. This space, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, is a Art Nouveau (Modernista) gem built by Bernadí Martorell i Puig, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí.

  • Architectural mapping: A millimetric scan of the facade was carried out to design the 2D/3D content and animations, tailoring them perfectly to the reliefs and features of the architecture.
  • Art direction and visual narrative: The visual content was developed in symbiosis with the script design, articulating a fluid story and an evolving atmosphere that transported the viewer on a journey through time.
  • Comprehensive sound design: The soundtrack, audio effects, and voice-over post-production were created from scratch in parallel with the visuals, merging sound and animation into an indivisible piece that heightened the emotional impact and immersion in the story.

A proposal for cultural dissemination

The driving thread of this narrative video mapping is structured as a chronological journey through the life of Oliba, focusing on his historical impact and universal values such as peace, law, and dialogue.

The audiovisual show offers a biographical synthesis that evolves from the medieval wartime context to the creation of milestones as primordial as the "Pau i Treva" (Peace and Truce of God), a pioneering law considered a precedent for international law and modern diplomacy. The story concludes by emotionally connecting this peaceful legacy with the present day and the foundational values of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, which are linked to the pursuit of justice, social commitment, and truth.
