Immersive Projection at the History Museum of Catalonia

The History Museum of Catalonia hosts, within the exhibition “The Roma People of Catalonia: History and Culture”, an immersive projection created by Sínoca that transforms the Tournai tapestries into a vivid, moving visual experience.
This audiovisual proposal merges historical heritage and contemporary technology through digital animation and the creation of immersive environments. The characters in the tapestries, nobles and Roma, come to life in an animated sequence that reinterprets the coexistence and social contrasts depicted in these 16th-century works.
The tapestries, produced in the Belgian city of Tournai in the early 16th century in the workshop of Arnould Poissonier, narrate The Story of Carrabara, a series of scenes that portray the lives and images of the Roma people upon their arrival in Europe.
This unique work is a major historical source, as it reflects the myths, prejudices, and stereotypes that shaped perceptions of the Roma community in Renaissance Europe.
With this immersive creation, Silvia Isach has given a new dimension to the tapestries, making their characters move, interact, and surround the viewer in an atmosphere that blends ancient art with contemporary visual technologies.
The result is an experience that invites visitors to rediscover heritage through a new lens, where history and culture take shape through the language of audiovisual art.
